We are only a few days away from CES 2019, where there are set to be a number of anticipated releases from AMD in particular, who are expected to be touting their Zen 2 archticeture "Matisse".
This leak comes directly from a Russian retailer, who are the very first to list the upcoming processors on their marketplace here. The retailer has listings for all of the supposed Zen 2 CPUs, from the Ryzen 3 3300 to the Ryzen 9 3800X. Yes, the x800X CPUs have made a return to the AMD platform under the monicker of Ryzen 9. Is this a jab at Intel? Most definitely.
As we stated in a previous post, the maximum number of cores on the AM4 platform has DOUBLED, making the highest end SKU (currently) 16 cores and 32 threads, which is what current gen Threadripper supports on the 2950X. What should be noted however, is the clockspeed. The retailer has listed the 3800X as having a base clock of 3.9 GHz (200MHz increase over 2700X) and a maximum boost clock on a single core of 4.7GHz (400MHz increase over 2700X). For a chip with a TDP of just 20W higher, that contains double the cores as well as higher clock speeds, it is simply amazing as to what these processors will be capable of.
If we take a look at the Ryzen 7 3700X, which directly replaces the current Ryzen 7 2700X, we can see an increase in cores and threads to 12 and 24 respectively. The massive thing for AMD in this CPU is it is the first commercial CPU that they will be releasing on the Zen platform that can go up to 5GHz with turbo boost, a milestone for the company to say the least. The CPU is also to have a 105W TDP much like its predecessor.
Amd just keeps throwing surprises our way (if the retailer is accurate), as they have also upped the core count of their Ryzen 3 SKUs, and enabled them with SMT! This will certainly shake up the market if this reigns true, as it is stated that the Ryzen 3 3300 will have 6 cores and 12 threads, which is currently occupied by the Ryzen 5 2600.
